The Shoe Fairy

Many many years ago, I first heard the magical tale of the Shoe Fairy.  It all started with a Grand Story that was told in my grandparents living room.  They told of this great fairy that would come when we were good and leave candy in our shoes, hide them somewhere in their house, and then the adventure would begin in the morning as we searched high and low for our prize. 

This adventure became something that we looked forward to as we slept over at Grammie and Grandad's.  We would leave our shoes at the top of the stairs and go to bed with dreams of fairy's flying around our house leaving us goodies for us to find in the morning.  I have countless memories of finding my shoe in the oven, on top of the fridge, under the couch, hiding in cupboards, etc. etc.  As I grew older, I learned the truth of the Shoe Fairy and the magic slipped away throughout the years.

Fast forward 15 years or so to a scene set at my mom's kitchen table.  Sienna, my niece, was sleeping over, and Sienna, my mom, and myself were chatting at the table as Sienna painted my mom's fingernails.  I told her of this Shoe Fairy and that the Shoe Fairy used to come visit her mom and me at Grandad's house.  I told her of the great treats that were left for us and for the exciting time it was to search for our shoes.  I then took it one step further and told her that I heard that the Shoe Fairy might stop by THAT NIGHT!  My hopes were high as I watched her face of wonderment suddenly turn into complete FEAR!  Sienna even got to the point that tears were flooding her eyes and her bottom lip was jutted out as big as I have ever seen it!  I couldn't understand why she didn't want the fairy to come and bring FREE CANDY! She kept telling my mom, her Grammie, that she didn't want the fairy to come.  Over and over those words timidly escaped her mouth.  I obliged and said, "Sienna, the Shoe Fairy will come when you are ready for her to come."  That seemed to calm her down, but you could see throughout the night that she was really terrified of this Shoe Fairy!

One week later, Sienna and her little brother Kaden were sleeping over again.  I got a text from my mom late that night that said, "Sienna wants the Shoe Fairy to come! Just FYI!"  So Andrew and I got the supplies on our way home and walked in to find Sienna and Kaden's shoes set perfectly on the table (Picture to come soon).  My heart literally melted for a minute! I went up and said good night to Sienna and Kaden and all she could talk about was that the Shoe Fairy was going to come!

After a nights sleep where Kaden sleeps on one side of my mom and Sienna on the other, they were ready to go find their treasures.  Sienna still was a little timid, but it was neat to see her timidness slowly being replaced by the magic and excitement of fairies! We walked all around the main floor until Kaden opened up the oven to see his shoe sitting there filled to the BRIM with Candy!  His face lit up so bright and looked up at Grammie like he couldn't believe it! He walked forward and grabbed his shoe with as much joy on his face that he could muster.  We continued walking around helping Sienna find her shoe when she looked up on the bookshelf and there was propped her little boot filled with candy.  She jumped up and down in excitement as we helped her get it down for her.  Kaden and Sienna ran over to the table and unloaded their candy explosion!

I was so happy that I was able to be there to see Sienna decide that she was brave enough to have the Shoe Fairy come and now she absolutely LOVES it! She always talks about how "The Shoe Fairy is going to come to her house now and bring lots and lots of Candy!" Sorry Amsy and Dan! :)

I hope this has started the magical tradition that the Chilton Kids once grew up with!

As of Lately...

Things you may or may not know about me:

* I'm starting to wear my pants unbuttoned and just swinging wide open.  Thank the heavens for Shade camisoles to hold everything together at this point!
* I have taken a complete, 100% stand off to party/event planning for 2012. I planned so many bridal showers, baby showers, and friend get togethers in 2011 that I think I am covered until January of 2013!  I spend a lot of lonely nights up in my office with Andrew, and I don't talk to my friends very much, and I am just exhausted!  So if you are wondering where I have been the past two months... there is the answer.  Call me.  I'd love for you to plan something for us to do.... please?
* I have tried 8 different pillows in the last month.  (Precurser- I used to have this pillow that was similar to a trampoline.  You would lay your head down and it would bounce back up into sweet dream perfection.  When we were moving I remember telling Andrew to not put it in storage, but after that I have no idea where it ran off to.)  Up until this month, the current pillow was fine.  NOT Anymore!  I want my trampoline pillow back. 
* Andrew is the best at grocery shopping.  I gave him our weekly allowance last week to go buy our groceries and sent him on his way. (Little faith on my part, mind you).  He came back with sacks upon sacks of yummy food and ended up saving us money.  That's my little champ.  I'm going to convince him that he needs to study the art of coupon clipping... I think he would succeed. 
* Some may have found out through FB, but my dog has learned how to open up doors.  Yup.  She can open up a door, jump over gates, get the bones that she wants, all while we are sitting in oblivion to what is going on around us.  That little rascal.  But how can you get mad at such a brilliant mammal?!

The BIG Reveal!

So Andrew and I ventured over to the Doctors on January 23- both fairly nervous and excited.  I couldn't wait to see the heartbeat because I knew that would ease my worries so much.  We were in the 9th week and I had found out in the 4th week, so we were READY to see the little munchkin!

Our Dr. is incredible and I feel so blessed to have such a caring doctor who takes the time for both Andrew and myself.  He made sure that he was 100% devoted to us during the hour or so that we were there and I never felt like I was a bother.  He did the main "check you out" procedures, which are always SO much fun, and then it was the fun part! We were about to see the baby!

He got out his ultra sound machine, lathered me all up with the goop, and placed the little monitor thing right on my belly.  Within a matter of seconds, he found where the munchkin was cooped up and we could see the rapidly moving heartbeat! Oh that was so incredible to see! I felt like 1,000 of my worries just left the window at that moment (leaving 99,000 more worries deep inside!) 

All in all, the Doctor's was great and we set up an appointment to come back a month later. So then it was time for Andrew and I to figure out how we wanted to tell our families.  I knew my dad was going to Aruba on the 10th of February to visit Craig and Em, so we wanted to make sure we did it before then.  On January 30th, I called up Amberlee and asked her if we could stop by really quick to show her a video I made.  She obliged so we quickly dropped in, made small talk, and then I whipped out Andy's phone.  I was able to show her the video we captured of the ultrasound and tell her that Andrew and I were expecting!  She was completely shocked, surprised, and SOOOO happy!  As Andrew kept the kids preoccupied, I kept talking to Amberlee and asked her if she could help me set up a dinner at her house so that my parents wouldn't suspect anything.  She of course said "Yes" and then she said, "Well... can I tell you something and you have to promise NOT to say anything?" WHAT WHAT?! She then told me that she is pregnant too!!! AWWWWWW!!!!! So exciting!!! She is two weeks behind me (Due September 14th).  That was such a fun time for the two of us as we were able to share such exciting news with each other before anyone else knew! I am so excited for our nuggets to grow up together and be best buds!

We set up the dinner for the 6th of February and had my mom and dad and Grandad over to Amberlee and Dan's house.  We ate dinner and then I said that I had a video I had made of Sienna and Kaden that I wanted to show them.  Everyone moved downstairs and we flipped on the DVD.  The video was about 30 seconds long and it was fairly cheesy, but it got the point across!  (It started out with a couple pictures of us and some quotes from The Family: A Proclamation to the World and then it went into the video of the ultrasound.) My mom thought she knew what video it was of the kids, so when it was showing pictures of Andrew and me she was like, "What?! This is isn't the one I was thinking of!"

Once the ultrasound showed up EVERYONE was freaking out! My mom had NO idea I was pregnant (and I was 11 weeks at this time!)  My dad was so excited- it was all just so amazing! We celebrated for a couple minutes and then I said, "And the great thing about all of this is that it will have a cousin about the same age!"  My mom was in shock and I pointed to Amberlee- the celebrations happened ALL over again! My dad fell off his chair, Grandad was so happy, and my mom just sat and held on to Amberlee and myself! It was all so exciting!

No one was expecting it and it went off without a hitch! I am so glad that Amberlee helped us plan the dinner and that we were both able to announce it at the same time! We were sad that Nick, Emily, and Craiggers weren't there, but we were able to call them right after and tell them the exciting news.  We are so excited for these two babies to join the family late summer time!!

Now Amsy and I get to look forward to a LONG Hot summer! haha
